Our Story
The site of the Mont Vernon General Store has been the location of the community's only store since 1840, when two tea distributors, the partnership of Blood & Temple, moved and converted an old hat box factory building into a retail establishment. Over the years since, the store has served the needs of Mont Vernon as it changed from a community of family farms to a resort location. And while the community changed, the store remained. Of course, the store has seen many changes, and many owners over the years, and in 2011 the store went out of business.
But big changes were on the horizon, and in 2012, the current owners, Dan Bellemore and Mike Wallenius, set out to rebuild and update the tradition -- to reinvigorate the idea of a family-run business that can both serve the community and employ its citizens.
The store boasts a commercial kitchen that prepares fresh breakfast sandwiches every morning to go with your hot coffee. Our lunch menu boasts gourmet hot and cold sandwiches, named after famous people from New Hampshire. Cheeseburgers and crispy chicken sandwiches are handy in the hot case for those in a hurry. The store is fully stocked with grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, and heat-and-eat meals for those nights when you just don't feel like cooking. Catering is also available.
Not only does the store have the usual conveniences of groceries, beer, wine, and tobacco, but it also has a wide selection of local goods, including local maple products, honey, dairy, organic eggs, preserves, soups, and dip mixes, as well as gourmet oils, coffee and toffee. In fact, we carry over 15 New Hampshire brands.

Summertime means ice cream, and our store has a newly equipped ice cream window with both soft serve and hard scooped ice cream.
Wine Selection:
About our wine selection, we're fussy. We work closely with our wine distributors to identify high-quality reasonably priced wines from the USA and around the world. Of course, we carry some pricier champagne, for those extra special occasions!
Signature Gift Baskets:
The signature item of our store are gift baskets, using innovative containers such as decorative boxes of various sizes, mixing bowls, salad bowls, planters, toolboxes, and children's toy wagons. Gift baskets made with local products are a specialty. And we will make to order gift baskets that can be delivered via the USPS anywhere in the USA. Like the USPS says, "if it fits, it ships."
